What is a TMJ disorder?
The Temporomandibular (TMJ) joint is another term for the jaw joint. TMD is a term referring to any disorder of the jaw. Pain can arise in the jaw and affect either the joint, muscles or neuromuscular structures of the jaw and face. Many patients develop headaches, clicking or pain as a result of a disorder of the jaw.
Physical Therapy is a primary intervention for jaw disorders which involves an assessment and a range of treatment techniques focused on decreasing inflammation and improving mobility and often stability in the jaw.
